The Guardianship scheme is now supported by Sky as part of a Discovery package of activities just for young people. Launched nearly 20 years ago Guardianships forge close and supportive links between schools and their local National Trust property. Staff from the Trust and school collaborate to develop active and unique hands-on education programmes using the outdoors as an extension of the classroom.
It is an expanding network that covers from preschool, primary through to secondary level and is based mainly at countryside and coastal properties but also in some gardens.
The ongoing relationship not only supports curriculum work, but also provides stimulating practical experience of the great outdoors and conservation work, A Guardianship's first aim is to enable and foster care and understanding for our wonderful natural environment - and have lots of fun!
