Climate change is the most significant long term threat to the nation’s natural and historic environment, and one of the National Trust’s greatest challenges.
The impacts of climate change in the UK are already having tremendous implications for the inspirational and beautiful properties and landscapes the National Trust cares for on behalf of the nation. We are learning how to manage these impacts.
We are taking action to tackle climate change at our properties - by reducing our energy use, generating energy from renewables, and managing our land better for storage of carbon in soils and vegetation. We are learning how to adapt to the impacts, and using our experience to influence Government.
The National Trust believes that there is an urgent imperative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to keep global temperature rise within the 2ºC limit to protect our natural and historic environment. Strong action on energy efficiency, renewable energy, and land management is essential.
