In a very successful effort to save the environment as well as money, the catering team at Cornwall’s Trelissick Garden have set up a dedicated herb garden just three paces from the kitchen door.
Bringing a whole new meaning to the word 'local', the cooks and menu planners know that whatever the weather their delicious herbs and salad leaves can be quickly harvested and put to use with no delay. Keeping step with the seasons is no problem and with bunches of fresh pink radishes from just one 25p packet of seed Catering Manager Steve Burgess reckons on saving up to £1,000 a year on his budget.
The herb garden is not open to the public, but the herbs can be enjoyed by sampling food from the menu at Crofters Restaurant.
