This quirky 16-sided house was built on the instructions of two spinster cousins after a grand tour of Europe. The interior contains grand tour mementoes and includes a feather frieze and shell-encrusted gallery.
Bradley

One of the finest medieval manor houses in Devon, Bradley has a fantastic woodland and riverside setting. Inside is an impressive collection of Pre-Raphaelite pictures and Arts & Crafts furniture.
Branscombe - The Old Bakery, Manor Mill & Forge

These three charming buildings are set in the pretty coastal village of Branscombe. Watch the blacksmith at work in the Forge, the only thatched example surviving in England, and buy his wares. The Old Bakery is now a tea-room and the water-powered Manor Mill has been restored to full working order.
The Church House

The Church House was a place where 'church ales', parish festivities raising funds for the church, were held in the 16th and 17th centuries. Since then this fine granite building has been almshouses and a school. It is now the village hall with a National Trust shop and Dartmoor Information Point at nearby Sexton's Cottage.
Compton Castle

This fairy tale castle has a 650 year history. The dramatic towers and battlements shelter a stone courtyard, hall with minstrels' gallery, solar, chapel, old kitchen, rose garden and knot garden. The Castle was a film location for 'Sense and Sensibility' (1995).
Finch Foundry

This fascinating forge made hand tools for farming and mining. The water-powered foundry is still in working order and daily demonstrations bring the machinery to life.
Killerton: Budlake Old Post Office Room Clyston Mill Marker's Cottage

There are three places to make a day out in Broadclyst on the Killerton Estate: the 1950s Old Post Office Room, fully working water-powered Clyston Mill, and Marker's Cottage, a thatched medieval cob house.
Shute Barton

The varied history of this medieval manor house dates from 1380. It is one of the most important surviving non-fortified manor houses of the Middle Ages and boasts battlemented turrets, late Gothic windows and a Tudor gatehouse.
Cornwall
Cornish Mines & Engines

These two great beam engines were used for pumping water and for winding men and ore up and down. They are a dramatic reminder of Cornwall's mining heritage. The Industrial Discovery Centre has displays on Cornwall's industrial heritage.
Lawrence House

Lawrence House can be visited as a local museum and civic centre. The Georgian town house was given to the National Trust to help preserve the character of the street and is now leased to Launceston Town Council.
Levant Mine & Beam Engine

Steaming again after 60 idle years, this working beam engine in its tiny engine house perched on the cliff edge is a reminder of Cornwall's industrial past. Take an underground tour from the miners' dry to the man engine shaft.
Tintagel Old Post Office

This 600 year-old traditional Cornish Longhouse is enhanced by a cottage garden. One room was used in the 19th century as a post office and is restored to show how it looked and functioned then.
Trengwainton Garden

A gardener's delight, this wooded gem has surprises around every corner. There is an abundance of exotic trees and shrubs, with the enormous tree ferns creating a 'Jurassic' feel. A stream runs through the garden and leads to a terrace with breathtaking coastal views.
