Thinking about volunteering and want to be part of a group? Our volunteer groups help our staff with hands-on involvement, organising conservation days and weekend events. Activities range from footpath and step construction to planting and coppicing.
We were founded to add another dimension to school visits to the property. We provide costumed staff to help school children understand life in the house when it was first built in the 16th century.
We make our own costumes, with assistance from other members of the team, taking parts suitable to the family members or staff of the house in the year 1580.
In addition to schools visits we also provide costumed staff to help at our very successful 'Step Back in Time' weekend in the summer and at the 'Christmas Past' events in December. We are also available to do demonstrations (particularly of Tudor dance) to other groups and schools.
Our members are mostly drawn from amongst the volunteers already working at the property in a number of varied capacities. This is primarily because the schedules of the Tudor Group are irregular and we like to think that our members are regularly involved with, and committed to, Canons Ashby.
