Thinking about volunteering and want to be part of a group? Our volunteer groups help our staff with hands-on involvement, organising conservation days and weekend events. Activities range from footpath and step construction to planting and coppicing.
Who are we?
The Mudlarks NTV group is a voluntary association of National Trust members and volunteers founded in 1990. It is a friendly, mixed team of about 30 people and the age range encompasses teenagers to septuagenarians who enjoy achieving conservation objectives, be it destructive or constructive, and the benefits of working together outdoors.
The activities involve carrying out practical conservation for the National Trust in North Derbyshire and the Mudlarks meet on one Sunday every month at the Longshaw and High Peak Estates alternately. Some of our members carry out additional work mid-week for one or two days in each month.
Why the name Mudlarks?
One of the earliest work days in 1990 was particularly wet and muddy. The group didn't have a name then so someone suggested "Mudlarks" and, like the mud, it stuck.
