Summer is on its way – and with it must come the National Trust's
Spitfire Prom concert at the magnificent Belton House!
The
concert on Saturday 12 July is one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the summer programme in
the East Midlands, giving revellers the ideal picnic opportunity, seeing thousands waving their flags
and singing along to the prom-style classics performed in front of the elegant 17th-century Belton
House. The concert usually sells out well in advance, so if you want to be a Belton promenader,
early booking is a jolly good idea!
For many years the undoubted highlight of the Spitfire Prom has been the spectacular
aerial display by Charlie Brown and his Spitfire plane.
Once again the combination of rousing flag-wavers and more reflective melodies is
provided by the renowned English National Orchestra with flamboyant conductor Jae Alexander. The orchestra
will play a selection of popular classics, such as Puccini’s Nessun Dorma, Nimrod, Pomp and Circumstance
and the ever-popular 1812 Overture. Soloists Wynne Evans (tenor) and Janet Mooney (soprano) will also
make a welcome return to Belton to fill the evening air with magnificent song.
Once Charlie Brown and his Spitfire have performed their magnificent tricks, a Prom-style
finale brings the evening to its rousing climax, complemented by a thoroughly spectacular firework display.
With this unique combination of relaxation and spectacle, the Spitfire Prom is rightly renowned as one
of the highlights of the East Midlands summer.
Tickets for The Spitfire Prom are priced £27 in advance or £32 on the day subject
to availability (5 -16 year-olds half price, under-5's free). Family tickets are priced £65/£75. Advance
booking is strongly recommended.
