Volunteers play a vital part in our success. Would you like to play an active role in our work in the East Midlands and join our team of volunteers?
Who volunteers?
Our volunteers come from all backgrounds and do a host of valuable tasks for us: helping with behind-the-scenes conservation, getting their hands dirty assisting in gardens and the countryside, meeting and greeting our visitors, supporting our learning staff with school parties and activities, taking photographs, and giving talks to groups - plus lots more.
Some volunteers join us on retirement from paid work; giving something back to an organisation whose work they are passionate about, and making new friends in the process.
Volunteering with us also provides excellent experience if you're interested in building your work-based skills, whether in, for example, customer services, teaching, horticulture, retail or the heritage industry.
We welcome anyone who has a few hours to spare, would like to meet new people, gain new skills and spend some time in amazing places.
A wealth of opportunities
These are just some of the opportunities available in the East Midlands right now:
The Peak District
The Peak District has a full-time volunteer placement available, with accommodation provided (based at the Longshaw Estate) from Monday 6 July 2009 for 10 weeks. This is an excellent opportunity for you to gain extensive visitor services and events experience over the summer. Please email Jill Beckett or Jane Cawrey.
Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire
Kedleston Hall is currently seeking volunteers for two new roles that will support the management of other volunteers at Kedleston, and help to enhance recruitment, selection and development across the volunteering team.
These roles would suit individuals with management skills they'd like to continue to make use of, for example following early retirement. They would also benefit anyone looking to develop their skill base, with a view to gaining paid employment.
The Workhouse, Derbyshire
The Workhouse at Southwell needs volunteers to help bring the history of England’s most complete surviving workhouse to life for visitors, including school groups.
Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood, Derbyshire
Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood need room guides and people to join the learning team. The Museum is also hoping to introduce family volunteering and we're interested in talking to families, with children aged 10 and over, who would like to volunteer together. If you're interested, please email Hannah Steggles.
Hardwick Hall, Derbyshire
Hardwick Hall needs volunteers to help visitors in the Stone Centre, to work with the Community Learning Officer and support the wardens out and about in the Park. There are also opportunities to assist with visiting groups in all parts of the property.
Tattershall Castle, Lincolnshire
At Tattershall Castle volunteers are needed to help out in the shop and with the learning team.
Clumber Park, Nottinghamshire
Clumber Park is seeking volunteers to help in the shop and to support the visitor services team in the Information Point, in cycle hire, out and about on the Park, and with major events. There are also opportunities with the wardens’ team, helping to maintain the presentation of the Park.
Clumber Chapel is a stunning example of Victorian Gothic architecture. It needs room guides to join the existing team. Volunteers in the Chapel will encourage people to make the most of their visit, offering information about the Chapel, and the Park in general. Full training and support will be given.
Belton House, Lincolnshire
Belton House, one of the busiest properties in the region, would be pleased to receive enquiries from potential volunteers who would like to find out more about the roles available. Please email Debbie Bembridge.

Rewards
As well as meeting new friends and learning new skills, rewards for regular volunteers include an admission card for all National Trust properties and discounted rates in our cafés and shops.
National Trust Volunteer Groups
If you can’t spare a few hours a week, you can always join one of our group volunteering events.
These groups volunteer once or twice a month at properties. It's a great way to get involved in conservation activities in the outdoors whilst having fun and making friends.
Companies also regularly work with us on team building volunteering events. Groups of colleagues get to know one another better while learning and practising new skills and getting through a surprising amount of work.
If you want to find out more details about any of the vacancies, or want to volunteer at a particular property, please contact Jane Cawrey on tel: 01909 511027 or Louise Budd on tel: 01909 511007.
