Members meet on the first Wednesday of every month October to May in Hitchin with further meetings in November and February in Letchworth.
Meetings, with attendances of up to 150, include talks on a range of heritage and other interesting subjects and provide members with a good social occasion. This year's programme includes talks on Highlights of China, Dig for Victory. Charing Cross and Leicester Square – the dead centre of London, The Case of the Vanishing Duchess: Gladys, Duchess of Marlborough 1881 – 1977, Life and Death in Chaucer’s London, Developments at Ickworth, Rutland Water – small but beautiful, Victorian Prisons, A Day in the Life of a Thames Tug and Every Dog has his Day – Dogs in Art.
Social and fund raising events are held throughout the year and include a Quiz Night and supper in February, our Annual lunch in March, a Saint George’s Day Afternoon Tea, a Summer Luncheon in June, punch and mince pies at our December meeting.
Many members also provide volunteer support for the National Trust, for example working as stewards at properties or helping with events.
