In winter Royston and Saffron Walden Association meet on the last Friday evening of every month alternately in Royston and Saffron Walden. Meetings include talks on a range of heritage subjects and allow members to socialise with like minded people.
In the past, for example, our programme has included talks such as ‘Behind the Iron Curtain’, 'Policing in the Community', 'Gardening at a National Trust Property' and 'William Morris and Kelmscott Manor', 'A year at Kew', 'Working at Wimpole and other National Trust properties'.
In summer we arrange day visits and short break holidays to places of interest. We have visited Kew Gardens and the newly refurbished Kew Palace, Basildon Park, Belvoir Castle, Baddesley Clinton and have been conducted on various walks around London.
For longer ‘short breaks’ we have visited Hereford, the Lake District and Northumberland in England and, further afield, the First World War Battlefields, the Bulb Fields of Holland and Rouen and North East Normandy.
Social and events are held each year and usually include a Christmas evening and an Annual Social event.
Many of our members also provide volunteer support for the National Trust by working as stewards at Wimpole Hall or Anglesey Abbey.
