Just over a year ago, the National Trust officially launched its food policy with the aim of inspiring our supporters to eat local, sustainable and seasonal food at our properties and at home.
This involved not only revisiting the way the National Trust as an organisation sourced the food for its restaurants and its menus on offer, but also how best the Trust can promote to visitors the importance of buying and eating locally sourced, seasonal food at home as well as on days out.
A great way of illustrating this is in the taste, and even in the National Trust’s smaller tea-rooms, the catering teams are behind the campaign for locally sourced food. From the award-winning Dunwich tea-rooms on the Suffolk coast, to the elegant Carriage House Restaurant of Felbrigg Hall in north Norfolk; at every National Trust catering outlet across the East of England you'll find a welcoming spot to stop for anything from a cup of tea to a three-course meal with the conscience that the food is fresh, seasonal and local.

St George's Day breakfast at Wimpole
We have teamed up with the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) to offer our members and other guests a very special St George's Day breakfast on Wednesday 23 April at Wimpole Hall and Home Farm.
The National Trust is supporting the CLA's 'Just Ask' campaign to encourage people to ask where the food on their plate comes from whenever they're out for a meal - whether in a hotel, restaurant, pub or fast food outlet.
The restaurant at Wimpole uses meat, fruit and vegetables from the estate and buys other ingredients from local suppliers. If you'd like more information about coming to the breakfast, please contact the East of England office.

Ickworth farmer’s continuing success with expanding sales of Estate lamb |
The success story of Paul Seabrook, sheep farmer at the Ickworth Estate near Bury St Edmunds, continues to grow with the establishment of direct sales of lamb that have been born and reared on the Trust parkland.
Paul is providing meat to an increasing number of local buyers, including the luxury hotel located in the East wing of Ickworth House. His business has gone from strength to strength after he was granted a Higher Level Scheme agreement in late 2006,which means he can manage the historically important parkland of Ickworth with maximum environmental and agricultural benefit.
It is hoped that by the end of the year Ickworth lamb will be on sale across the region.
