Statement from Nick Champion, spokesman for The National Trust, on the prosecution of a male charged on 29 June 2008 with the offence of organising an illegal rave at Horsey Gap on 13 April 2008:
'We hope that the fine of £1,000, and the destruction of sound equipment, sends the message that irresponsible behaviour and illegal events that threaten wildlife and disturb people are not going to be tolerated.
'Our support and gratitude go to Norfolk Police for their proactive approach in tackling illegal raves. This has made a real impact on reducing the number and scale of raves so far this year.
'A group of determined and extremely organised people continue to target Horsey Gap as a venue for illegal raves. This causes major problems for our team at Horsey, who have the considerable challenge of protecting this fragile habitat while maintaining access for our visitors.
'Horsey Dunes, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is an internationally important site for wildlife and we want all responsible visitors to enjoy this special area without feeling concerned about the illegal activity of those involved with raves.'
