In the East of England we have nearly 6,000 volunteers who donate over 300,000 hours of their time to The National Trust.
We couldn’t operate without these people who give up their time to help us run our properties across Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.
The variety of these properties spans medieval hunting forest and national nature reserves to working mills, farms and mansions. This means we have a huge range of volunteering opportunities, from milling and conservation cleaning, to our essential room guides.
Asked if she would recommend volunteering for The National Trust, Leigh Gill, who works in the garden and house at Anglesey Abbey, said:
'Absolutely and positively without a doubt! There are so many different possible volunteer areas – it seems there is something for everyone of every talent. New skills and knowledge, new people, new opportunities – I think most volunteers benefit as much if not more than The National Trust.'
To give visitors more opportunities to enjoy our extraordinary assets, opening hours at properties in the region are being extended. This means we need even more help in the form of volunteers.
Give as much time as you want as a volunteer, and in return you will meet new people, join in social activities, share your experience and gain new skills, pursue interests and enjoy new challenges. All we ask is a regular commitment of your time.
If you are interested in getting involved with The National Trust near you, we would love to hear from you. Email us or call 01284 747500 to find out more.
