Description
Castle Ward is a beautiful 750 acre estate in a stunning location overlooking Strangford Lough. The Georgian house is one of the architectural curios of its time, built inside and out in two distinct architectural styles, Classical and Gothic, reflecting the different tastes of the 18th-century creators of the house, Bernard and Anne Ward. The two styles are carried throughout the house which is filled with furniture, decorative arts and personal objects form generations of the family. The Stable Yard houses a Victorian laundry and playroom, and beyond in the estate is a farmyard, a water-driven cornmill and sawmill all of which give a full flavour of how the house and estate worked. There is a formal garden, The Temple Water, as well as woodland and Lough-side paths and horse trials throughout the beautiful estate.
