What equipment do I need to bring? You need to bring all equipment as for camping except for the tent and stove! Cutlery, plates, matches, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, extra lighting advisable.
Can we swim in the lake? Swimming is NOT recommended in the lake due to the occasional presence of harmful algae.
Do you accept dogs? Yes, dogs are accepted. Owners are asked to keep them under close control.
Is there parking at the bothy? Yes, there is space for a maximum of 3 cars at the bothy.
Where's the nearest village? The nearest village is approximately 6 miles away at Lorton. There is a combined post office and small grocery shop here.

Where's the nearest pub / restaurant? The nearest pub is The Kirkstile Inn and is 20 minutes walk from the bothy providing both ale and good food.
Can we fish? You can fish for brown and coarse fish on Loweswater (from March until October) and trout, char, pike and perch on nearby Crummock Water and on Buttermere. Anglers must hold a current fishing licence available at Post Offices and Tourist Information Centres. You will also require a private fishing permit - contact us for a leaflet.
Can I get there by public transport? The closest you can get to Loweswater by public transport is to Lorton by bus (approximately 6 miles away). For further information, visit Traveline or call the traveline on 0871 200 22 33.

How many visitors can the bothy take? The maximum number recommended is 10.
Where is the nearest food shop? Lorton, 6 miles away has a small grocery shop. For a large supermarket, you will need to drive to Cockermouth which is 20 minutes away by car.
