Nether Alderley Mill

This charmingly rustic mill is one of only four virtually complete corn mills in Cheshire. It dates from the 15th century and has an original Victorian water wheel. The mill has been restored to partial working order.

This restored Victorian park is a great base for enjoying Lake Windermere. It has fine picnic areas and rowing boat hire. Visit in spring and early summer for the impressive displays of daffodils and rhododendrons.
Gondola

Take a cruise across Coniston Water on the steam yacht Gondola. This rebuilt Victorian steam-powered yacht is a unique craft, marrying a Venetian gondola with Victorian steam technology. The stunning backdrop of Coniston Fells provides the views.
Hill Top

Beatrix Potter lived and wrote many of her famous children's stories in this delightful farmhouse. The house has been kept exactly as she left it and you'll see many of her beloved 'treasures' on display. The house, gardens and village were used as models for illustrations in six of her books.
Townend

A real fire burns at Townend most days, adding to the homely appeal of this classic Lakeland home. The house is an exceptional example of Lake District vernacular architecture and contains, among other things, fascinating domestic implements from the past.

Rufford Old Hall
