Three great reasons to visit the north Kent countryside:
- You can get to it within an hour from the centre of London by public transport
- You can enjoy a picnic with a view over miles of the Weald of Kent from One Tree Hill and Ide Hill
- You can visit Toys Hill, on the highest point on the Greensand Ridge, and view the four counties of Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex and Surrey
Many of the National Trust-owned areas in the north Kent countryside are Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and lie within the Kent Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The places we protect there vary from ancient woodland at Toys Hill and Oldbury Hill to a Neolithic Long Barrow at Coldrum.
One of the National Trust founders, Octavia Hill, is buried at Crockham Hill and would have enjoyed many of the hilltops now in Trust ownership, and the stunning vistas they provide over the Weald.
