A new and unique play area at Claremont Landscape Garden in Esher is now open.
Work started on this project over two years ago with a vision to create a safe, fun, interactive and refreshing ensemble of activities for the property's younger visitors.
It was decided that the area would comprise of a series of structures based on the 18th-century landscape garden – the aim was to encourage children to play and develop their imagination inspired by the history of the property.
The first main feature is modelled on the island pavilion: a play house in the middle of a lake crossed by a bridge. A second, larger structure, replicating the Belvedere Tower, for older children, has a climbing wall, scramble net, ladder and slide.
The timber used in the construction of the play area was sourced from forests certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council. These forests are managed to ensure long term timber supplies while protecting the environment and lives of forest dependant communities.
Michelle Kent, the Visitor Services Manager at Claremont, says:
'This project has seen the unique adaptation of historic 18th-century follies to a modern day play area. All of those involved have worked really hard and experienced great enjoyment bringing it to fruition. We now look forward to welcoming children to this exciting new area of the garden.'
