The National Trust’s Hatchlands Park, near Guildford, received a mayor’s award for access at a ceremony on Thursday 12 October. The award is in the category of access to the countryside.
The property was nominated after working with the Disabled Ramblers’ Society to introduce Trampers, a type of mobility vehicle, for a few weeks last spring. The Trampers allowed visitors who found walking more challenging to explore the glorious woodland on the property throughout April, when the bluebells were at their best.
Hatchlands Park Property Manger Julie Lawlor said: “We were delighted when we heard that we had been chosen to receive this award. We had great feedback from our visitors who borrowed a Tramper, and we plan to have them available again next April so visitors can make the most of our wonderful bluebell displays. We are also really grateful to the Disabled Ramblers’ Society for all their support.”
