Thinking about volunteering and want to be part of a group? Our volunteer groups help our staff with hands-on involvement, organising conservation days and weekend events. Activities range from footpath and step construction to planting and coppicing.
Who are we?
Founded in 1975 the RNTV meet at least once a month on a Sunday to work on countryside sites (mainly woodland and gardens) in the Thames Valley and Chilterns. We rotate tasks between several estate wardens, foresters and gardeners in the area, who provide tools and instructions on how to use them safely.
Anyone reasonably active is welcome and as we have no subscription then volunteers are free to make as much commitment as they want.
Twice a year we stay at NT base camps further afield for whole weekends, occasionally extending the visit for a bit of hiking if there are hills!
Most members live around Reading and we try to minimise our impact on the environment by offering lifts so you shouldn’t let transport put you off.
Tasks include woodland management, footpath maintenance, gardening and hedge laying.
We also have some social activities spread throughout the year.
