Well, now is your chance. It’s Volunteer Week and the National Trust have a whole host of opportunities for you to have fun getting involved, no matter what your area of interest or level of knowledge. You bring the enthusiasm and energy and the National Trust will help you have fun using it.
Perhaps you see yourself as the next housekeeper at Chirk Castle (costume supplied). Or, if dressing up isn’t your thing then how about letting your green fingers do the talking as a garden steward helping visitors understand the vast array of trees and shrubs in National Trust gardens. For indoor types there is the chance to become a room steward, helping people get the most out of their experience by explaining the history and contents of some of Wales’ best loved buildings.

These volunteer roles are open at properties across Wales and all they require is enthusiasm and interest; the National Trust will supply the knowledge, gardening gloves and name badges.
For those with a taste for the technical, the National Trust also has volunteer roles assisting with the installation of ‘green’ heating technologies, supporting electricians and builders or packing and recording furniture and fittings in preparation for renovation works.
Volunteering with the National Trust isn’t just about having fun spending time in and around some of our most wonderful national treasures; it can have long term implications too. Many careers in all sorts of professions from teaching to management and wardens to conservationists have started with a volunteer role. The experience can be as rewarding as it is interesting and is an appealing addition to a CV for employers from all sorts of industries.
There are almost endless opportunities to learn, discover and share at National Trust properties across Wales. So, if you see yourself in any of the roles mentioned above or if you think you could organise nature trails, quizzes or treasure hunts then please contact 01492 863400 for more information.
Remember, all you need is plenty of enthusiasm and a little spare time. The National Trust will supply the rest.
