You'll also be helping a great cause - local groups support the work of the charity and raise hundreds of thousands of pounds every year for our conservation and access projects around the country.

About the group

The Quantock Centre was founded in 1970 and has a membership of nearly 800 from Taunton, Bridgwater, Ilminster, Wellington, Williton and their surrounding areas. The Centre is open to members of the National Trust and volunteers.

The Quantock Centre is among the most active local groups in Wessex and we take a special interest in Barrington Court, near Ilminster, the first large house purchased by the Trust. Nearby are two other 'firsts': Coleridge Cottage, Nether Stowey, the first Trust-owned house associated with a famous person; and Montacute House, near Yeovil, the first large house given to the Trust.

We visit houses and gardens in other parts of the country, properties belonging not only to the National Trust but to other public and private owners, some of them rarely opened to the public. Members also enjoy a wide variety of other activities, including talks, music, art and social events.
