The Whose Story? project highlights previously untold stories, hidden histories and cultural heritage links within our properties in the West Midlands.
The project is inspiring audiences from black and minority ethnic communities and developing new ways of bringing our properties to life. It attracts diverse audiences with events ranging from Surdhwani South Asian dance performances to Kite Flying at Croome Park.
With generous support from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), we've started the process in four properties.
Back to Backs, Birmingham
Visit the Back to Backs for events in the courtyard. Take a sneak preview of the Routs to Youts film featuring George Saunders, a tailor from St Kits who set up his business at the Back to Backs.
Charlecote Park, Warwickshire
Home to the Lucy family since the 15th century, Charlecote Park was remodelled in Victorian times by Mary Elizabeth Lucy, mistress of the house at that time.
You can wander through some of the rooms in the house, including the servants' rooms, enjoy the formal gardens and walk through the parkland.
Croome Park, Worcestershire
Take a tour of grottos, trees and statues at Croome Park, with the new audio tour trail. Follow the trail as William Dean, gardener at Croome in 1824, talks you through the exciting stories of the park. You'll find yourself going past the panoramic view, the statue of Pan, ginkgo trees and Sabrina's grotto.
Wightwick Manor and Gardens, Wolverhampton
A new visitor guide, inspired by the local Muslim community in partnership with Ulfah Arts, brings to life the many treasures in the house in a unique way.
The ‘Sacred Quran’ brings together quotes from the Quran selected by local Muslim men and women who felt inspired by objects on display at this Victorian house.
