Almost a year after we launched the campaign to save Seaton Delaval Hall, people are understandably asking... Have we secured it yet? What are we waiting for?
It may seem like things have gone quiet, but we would like to assure you that progress is still being made - your support for the appeal has not been in vain! Our fundraising total is now close to a fantastic £3 million, thanks to almost 30,000 donations from across the UK and especially generous backing from within the North East.
We continue to raise funds - all of which will help build a future for Seaton Delaval Hall - and Lord Hastings is working with the government to agree the terms by which this wonderful place can pass to the National Trust in payment of the family's inheritance tax bill.
This is a complicated, private process, but all parties are seeking to move it forward as soon as possible. When it is finished we will be able to complete our grant applications to several major public funding bodies and hopefully meet our £6.3 million goal, but again this will take time.
Liz Fisher, North East Assistant Director for the National Trust, said:
"We are grateful for everyone's patience and continued support. We hope to have more news over the summer and will share it as soon as we do."
