ASHLEY
16 – 20 April The start of the pre-paint repairs (PPR’s). Becoming a bit of a pro at filling and patching window and door frames but it’s all good practice. Had the opportunity to re-glaze a window at Kirkhill on the garage was great to get stuck in and have a big job of my own.
The next couple of days were spent making PPR lists, then working at Wallington’s greenhouse and peach house. Was great to have a look round because we haven’t had a chance to see any of Wallington yet, however the days were very long, wet and boring with a lot of standing around for me and Dan. Didn’t learn anything which was a shame.
23 – 27 April Into Newcastle city centre for a change. Visited the Holy Jesus Hospital to make some preparations for new CCTC. Was a jam packed day with loads of little jobs for me to do. Was great!
Then I spent the next couple of days up on the roof at Scots’ Gap offices. It was the first time I have worked on scaffold it was a real novelty and enjoyed it. The actual work was a different story with there not being a lot to do so I busied myself with a lot of tidying up. End of the week I was back at Holy Jesus. Loads to do after the CCTV had been installed, day was brilliant. I love it when I am busy all day!
30 April – 4 May A break from the norm because I was on holiday!!
DANIEL
16 April – 20 April I have worked all week on the Wallington estate. It started off fine as I was helping Tony the joiner make and fit a new gate. On the Wednesday and Thursday I was easing some of the box sash windows as they had been painted shut and were sticking really badly.
Friday wasn’t a good day at all, as me and Ashley were down at Wallington garden with other joiners, they were trying to free up the greenhouse windows. There wasn’t much for us to do and it felt like a bit of wasted day for us two.
23 April – 27 April Monday I was on maintenance duty as Davie the Mason was ill that day. This involved me clearing out the gutters for the day. From Wednesday to Friday I was working at Lynshield Farm on the Bellister Estate helping to erect a new stud wall and plaster board both that and the ceiling. I really enjoyed this, I felt like I was learning something that was going to be valuable to me.
30 April – 4 May I worked with Reg all week at Hartington Cottages, Wallington, where we carried out the pre paint repairs, This involves mainly filling and sanding the first couple of days. I then replaced a window sill and fitted a new pain of glass which I enjoyed although I was extremely messy with the putty. Think I am going to need some practice with this stuff!
