About the group
The County Durham Centre was established in 1970 to promote and actively assist the National Trust. Members of the National Trust (including National Trust for Scotland) and Volunteers are assured of a warm welcome to this particularly active association.
The Centre has a membership of about 400, drawn from the old geographical County, i.e. between the Tyne and Tees. Members of the Centre enjoy an annual programme of about 25 events throughout the year. These include day visits, social events, talks and holidays and shortbreaks.
The activities of the Centre enable contributions of about £3,000 on average each year to be made to projects at National Trust properties in the North East, e.g. Lindisfarne, Wallington, Gibside, Washington Old Hall and Souter Lighthouse.
