The National Trust is continuing its annual tradition of floodlighting Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire this autumn, providing a great opportunity to see the Abbey in a completely different light.
Every Saturday from 12 September until 17 October, come and experience the beauty and tranquillity of Fountains Abbey, floodlit when the grounds are open late from dusk until 10pm.
Listen to the melodic sounds of Gregorian chant resounding through the ruins, discover the unique atmosphere, and indulge in the peaceful surroundings of the Cistercian Abbey bathed in floodlight.
Enjoy tucking into delicious hot pork sandwiches from the hog roast (available from 6pm to 9pm) and participate in some late night shopping at the Visitor Centre Gift Shop, open until 8pm.
This year, we're welcoming a different choir each week to perform in the Abbey, including the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir and the Easingwold School Chorus.
They’ll perform varied programmes, from 8pm to 9pm, ranging from light, popular songs through to sacred and classical music.
And for those wanting to learn more about the history of the Abbey and the monks, guided tours will take place at 7pm and 7.30pm.
General Manager, Chris Fowler, said:
'Floodlighting the abbey has been a tradition that visitors return year after year to see.
'Wandering through the breathtaking ruins on a crisp autumn evening is a truly incredible experience.'
