Home of Lord Armstrong, Victorian inventor, innovator and landscape genius, Cragside House was a wonder of its age. Built on a rocky crag high above the Debdon Burn, the house was the first in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity. The variety and scale of Cragside's gardens are also not to be missed with over forty miles of footpaths to discover and explore across the estate.
Lindisfarne Castle

Perched atop a rocky island crag, this romantic 16th-century castle is accessible only by a causeway at low tide. It was transformed in Edwardian times into an intimate holiday home. Outside is a charming Getrude Jekyll walled-garden.

Souter Lighthouse

This striking Victorian lighthouse was the first to use alternating electric current. The engine room, light tower and keeper's living quarters are all on view. Immediately to the north is the Leas, 2½ miles of beach and cliff with spectacular views.
