Pupils from Worksop Priory Primary School in Nottinghamshire beat over 150 other children to become the National Trust’s Crumble Rumble Champions in the first ever national competition of its kind.
The team, who plucked apples and blackberries from the National Trust’s Clumber Park estate nearby, took a mere 63 minutes to forage, prepare and cook a fruit crumble from its very source.

Laura Shaw, adjudicator for the crumble rumble said: 'the enthusiasm that went into this race has been amazing. I have never seen children running around with such purpose, gathering the correct amount of fruit, then listen so attentively to our chef and learn to make a crumble so quickly. And the proof is in the pudding, a very delicious apple and blackberry crumble using fruit from our own doorstep.'
The ten strong team of children from Worksop Priory School were 'delighted' with this record first place, and the school has won the prestigious title of Crumble Rumble Champions and their winning pudding ‘Worksop Priory Crumble’ will be cooked in National Trust restaurants across the Autumn and Winter.
More than 150 school children from across the UK to part in the bid to win the National Trust’s ‘Crumble Rumble’, organised as part of the Trust’s early contribution to British Food Fortnight.
Schools were set to begin the race at 9.30 am on Wednesday 9 September, and completion time ranged from 63 minutes to 118 minutes
People at home can also learn how to make a crumble, as demonstrated by top chef, Richard McGeown, at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/crumblerumble, or pick up crumble recipe cards at properties across England and Wales.
The Crumble Rumble was a forerunner to British Food Fortnight (19 September– 4 October 2009) which the Trust is celebrating with a number of Food Glorious Food events for children and their families at local Trust properties throughout the country.
Wherever possible the National Trust uses local, seasonal and sustainable food in its 150 restaurants and catering outlets, with properties serving a variety of freshly-made, delicious hot puddings throughout the Autumn, including fruit crumble.
