Visit the National Trust for Heritage Open Day on Saturday 13 September.
As part of Heritage Open Days this year, the National Trust will be opening over 300 of its properties for free on Saturday 13 September. Across England, Northern Ireland and Wales there will be opportunities to see conservation in action, learn about traditional skills and take behind-the-scenes tours or view rooms not usually open to the public.
Here’s a selection of the events on offer:
Chirk Castle, Wales

Visit the exhibition ‘It’s Your History’, look up your ancestors on the servants’ database and help fill in the missing pieces of the castle’s past. Discover life behind the scenes and below stairs with the 'Hidden Servant Stairs' tour- a chance to see many of the hidden staircases and parts of the castle not usually open to the public
Berrington Hall, Herefordshire
Have a taste of life below stairs in this elegant Henry Holland house and see the footman’s bedroom and servants’ staircase open for the first time.
