Sixty-one per cent of Brits need more gardening education and advice to become more eco-friendly in the garden.

That’s why the National Trust’s garden experts are working in partnership with Yorkshire Bank to bring you a series of Greener Garden short films, the first of which is now live.

Film number one features Sarah Malleson - Kitchen gardener at Hidcote Manor in the Cotswolds – sharing with you great and simple gardening tips which will help you be kinder to the environment, whilst saving time and money.  

The films are a new addition to the Greener Gardens website - recently launched to share money saving greener gardening expertise. The web site is part of the National Trust’s Outdoor Programme, supported by Yorkshire Bank and Clydesdale Bank, which focuses on addressing climate change through the Trust’s gardens and plant collections.

A total six of the Trust’s skilled and knowledgeable gardening experts have come together to share their tips and advice in a series of Greener Gardens short films, produced in partnership with Yorkshire & Clydesdale Bank.

In the initial video, Sarah takes you through quick and effective ways to cut back on spending money on the garden; like making your own fertiliser, recycling everyday objects into garden equipment and how to take the perfect cutting off a plant to grow elsewhere.

Future videos offering priceless advice include composting, saving water, growing your own food, organic gardening and how to look after wildlife in the garden; all featuring National Trust experts in each area, passing on years of knowledge in a simple, easy to follow way. These videos will be on the website over the next few months.

Other areas of the National Trust’s Outdoor Programme include: plant recording across 80 key Trust gardens - enabling the Trust to identify the rarest and most threatened plants and ensure that these are propagated for the future; and the Greener Gardens Fund – supporting initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of maintaining Trust gardens, such as rainwater harvesting, re-instating old wells and composting on an industrial scale.
