If you’re after a unique holiday or special weekend away, the National Trust’s 2009 holiday cottage brochure offers a greater range of superb properties to hire than ever before, located in the most stunning locations throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Ten new holiday cottages are planned to open in 2009, with an exciting array of properties to choose from stretching in location from Cornwall to the Lake District. New to the collection of more than 360 cottages include a Welsh medieval hall-house, a converted pig shed, a gothic revival chaplain’s house and a former coffee tavern in one of England’s most historic villages.
A National Trust holiday cottage is like no other; invariably a building steeped in history, in an area of natural beauty or with a fascinating past. Our properties can be found on some of the grandest country estates, in the prettiest villages or on the most dramatic coastlines that England, Wales and Northern Ireland have to offer.
'With properties including former sporting grandstands, water towers and lighthouse cottages, as well as apartments within grand houses and cliff-top dwellings; we offer a fantastic collection of holiday homes to cater for everyone'
said Richard Day, Head of Holidays for the National Trust.
'And by booking a holiday at one of our cottages, you are directly supporting the conservation work of the Trust.'
National Trust holiday cottages are renowned for the high standard of care that goes into their upkeep. With small gestures, such as fresh milk and tea and coffee on arrival, and the background history of the house, your stay at a National Trust holiday cottage will be an cherished experience.
Wildlife, walks and places of historic interest are on your doorstep wherever you choose to stay and with more holiday cottages accepting dogs than ever before, your faithful friend can also share the memories and fantastic walks with you.
Before considering any building for holiday accommodation, careful thought is given to other possibilities of use along with local needs. Once decided, each property is painstakingly renovated by the National Trust using our architectural expertise, and local contractors are brought in where possible, to ensure that original features and vernacular style of the cottages remain, and that the most environmentally sustainable methods of heating is considered.
