    The Devil's Punch Bowl

Local legend has it that the Punch Bowl was created by the Devil; hence the name. It was actually formed by springs which cut down and back into the soft rock and is the largest spring-formed feature in Britain. The slopes of the Devil's Punch Bowl, a large natural amphitheatre, are covered with heath, small streams and areas of woodland. SU890357

    Hindhead Commons
An extensive area of lowland heath dominated by heathers, gorse and grasses, such as purple moor. Birds like nightjar, stonechat and woodlark can be spotted here and look out for green, great and lesser-spotted woodpeckers in the woodland. The valley bottom is home to a rich variety of insects, including rare craneflies. SU890357
