When walking into the celebrated Cathedral Close in Salisbury, visitors step back into a past world, and on entering Mompesson House, featured in the award-winning film Sense and Sensibility, the feeling of leaving the modern world behind is deepened. The tranquil atmosphere is enhanced by the magnificent plasterwork, fine period furniture and graceful oak staircase, which are the main features of this perfectly proportioned Queen Anne house. In addition, the Turnbull collection of 18th-century drinking glasses is of national importance. The delightful walled garden has a pergola and traditionally planted herbaceous borders
- Perch on the window seats to admire the fine plasterwork.
- Children, seek out all the human faces in the mouldings.
- In cooler weather, sit in the Library by the fire.
Regular croquet sessions on the lawn for people of all ages and ability. Hands-on craft sessions. Music includes pianists playing our 1790s Broadwood square piano and Northumbrian Pipers sessions
