'Architectural Britain' By Ptolemy Dean 320 pages, National Trust Books ISBN: 9781905400492
Architectural Britain is a beautifully compact guide to the history of Britain's built heritage. Using detailed drawings and atmospheric photographs to illustrate key buildings and architectural features, it outlines the development of architectural styles and movements in Britain, perfect for the beginner to take to the streets.
From Gothic cathedrals to Tudor dwellings, Georgian crescents, to Canary Wharf skyscrapers, many of the buildings are in the care of the National Trust, such as Bodiam Castle in Sussex, The Vyne in Hampshire, and Mompesson House in Wiltshire and Chastleton House in Oxfordshire.
'The more people who can read and enjoy historic architecture, the more importance architecture will be given in our society. We live in an increasingly fast and distracted age when people have less and less time to look and see, and consequently to understand the rich heritage of the past that surrounds us.'
