Heelis was designed first and foremost as the new central office of the National Trust. It is not only an innovative and environmentally friendly building but an efficient and pleasant place in which to work.
Here's what some of the people who work at Heelis have to say:-
'The quality of light at Heelis is fantastic - whether in the atrium or at my desk, it seems to hit you from all directions and creates a refreshingly natural workspace.'
Emily Bryce Countryside Promotion Officer
'Any building that makes sound use of a historical site for the present day works for me. And I admire the scale of Heelis and how its shape melds with those of the industrial Brunel facades in this Victorian railway setting. Then there is the sheer minimalist design - the chrome and sleek wood that creates a sense of tranquillity and order.'
Sue Herdman Editor, The National Trust Magazine
'Working in an office with natural air and an "intelligent" environmental system is a pleasure. No headaches from artificial lighting or air conditioned stuffiness. Heelis provides natural light, and a fresh atmosphere. We can even open the windows to further enjoy the summer fresh air!'
