Delivering the National Trust’s vision – ‘for ever, for everyone’ – is a demanding challenge and will only be achieved through good governance arrangements.
These arrangements, which underpin the day-to-day operations of the Trust, are set out in this document: the Second Edition of the Governance Handbook published in January 2008. The document articulates how the Trust is run, how it takes decisions and how it will achieve its objectives.
The Handbook identifies the main Trust bodies which makes up its governance structure, and explains how they run their affairs, delivering the required levels of openness, transparency and accountability.
The governance structures and processes are there to demonstrate to all who care about the Trust that the organisation is well run and that it can be held to account for its performance.
We will continue to review our governance arrangements, particularly to judge the effectiveness of this revised version of the Handbook and also to provide the means by which further revisions can be introduced.
We would welcome any comments you may have on this document and this can be done by contacting The Deputy Secretary of the National Trust on 01793 817416 or by email to governance@nationaltrust.org.uk
