The National Trust works to preserve and protect the coastline, countryside and buildings of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
We do this in a range of ways, through practical caring and conservation, through learning and discovery, and through encouraging millions of people to visit and enjoy their national heritage.
Without our many members, visitors and volunteers we would be unable to carry on with our work. However, It is not just through visiting properties that you help us. Our many enterprises include National Trust tea-rooms and shops and holiday cottages - an increasingly popular choice for places to stay on holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
While much of our work in looking after the nation’s countryside, coastline and historic environment is well known, the National Trust is 'more than a pretty place'. The Trust invests over £160 million a year in the nation’s environmental infrastructure and works with over 40,000 companies, including 2,000 specialist conservation businesses.
We have many long-term programmes in place to help educate people about the importance of the environment and of preserving our heritage for future generations. We also contribute to important debates over the future of the economy, the development of people’s skills and sense of community, and the quality of the local environment in both town and country.
