A new beginning for employee volunteering
Three years funding by the Home Office’s Active Community Unit has now come to an end, and the Employee Volunteering Programme (EVP) partnership was disbanded in March 2005. Each of the partners, National Trust, Wildlife Trusts, RSPB, YHA and BTCV, are committed to continue the initiative, but to integrate the successful volunteering option within their own in-house volunteering functions.
National Trust project funding has been made available to continue a focus on employee volunteering. EVP has been a tremendous success demonstrating what can be achieved through external funding, an innovative partnership and the development of a focus area. The National Trust has hosted 84 per cent of the 6,384 employee volunteers who have been involved since the projects inception in 2001.
EVP has achieved its core objectives of creating processes, toolkits and resources for a sustainable project. A new audience has been inspired by the environment and heritage sector and given the opportunity for formal and informal volunteering experiences.
EVP has worked with 127 clients and hosted over 400 employee volunteer projects. The notional value of this time is over half a million pounds. From the private sector clients have included: Barclays, E.ON.UK, Cadbury Schweppes, AstraZeneca, AXA, Cisco Systems, HBOS, Landrover, Motorola, Unilever, Goldman Sachs, BBC, BT, Timberland and Vodafone. From the public sector RAF, Army, regional government offices, local councils and numerous government departments: Work and Pensions, Finance and Personnel and Transport to name but a few.
