'Scott is very much looking to gain full time employment after his time with us and we all wish him well in his endeavours.'
Peter Wilson, Building Supervisor, Holnicote
The project
As part of his 12 week Prince’s Trust course Scott, aged 24, joined the National Trust’s team at the Holnicote Estate. Working in the building department, Scott had the opportunity to learn about woodwork and joinery. After the completion of his Prince’s Trust course, Scott returned to the property on a six-month New Deal placement while working towards an NVQ.
Their words...
'I first came to the National Trust for a fortnight to gain some work experience. During that time I completed several tasks and felt that in myself I had gained a lot of knowledge about the basics, the use of tools and the different woods used. I now feel that I know what I want to do for a job. I plan to get training so I can continue working as a carpenter / joiner, being especially grateful for my time here with the Trust. It will obviously aid me in my career aspirations.' Scott
What Scott has gained
- Opportunity to try something new
- New skills and interest
- Evidence towards a recognised qualification
- A future career path
What the project achieved
When Scott started his Prince’s Trust course he was unemployed. Scott is now working full time during his New Deal placement and hopes to pursue a career in carpentry.
The property recognises the contribution they have made to Scott's personal development and are keen to take further placements in the future.
