What is the Careership programme?

Careership is a unique three year training scheme designed to train the gardeners and countryside wardens of the future. The programme blends college theory with practical experience at a National Trust property.

During this time trainees work towards nationally accredited qualifications, including NVQs in Amenity Horticulture for Trainee Gardeners or NVQs in Environmental Conservation for Trainee Wardens.

Who can apply?

The programme is open to:

• School leavers aged 16-plus who have, or expect to achieve, 4 x GCSEs at Grade C or above:
  
  For trainee Gardeners these should be English Language, Mathematics, Art or a Science subject, and one other academic subject.
  
  For trainee Wardens these should be English Language, Mathematics, a Science subject, and one other academic subject.

• People seeking a career change who have qualifications not related to amenity horticulture or environmental conservation.

There are normally 21 places available each year and each Trainee is attached to a specific property. Vacancies at training locations are advertised in April each year.
