Chartwell was the family home of Sir Winston and Clementine Churchill for 40 years, from 1924 until 1965.
During the twenties and thirties, Churchill used Chartwell as the base for his political and literary work, together with hosting weekend house parties when close relations and friends would gather to enjoy Chartwell’s commanding views over the Weald of Kent or spar with Sir Winston on the politics of the day.
The Mulberry Room
During the war the house was dust-sheeted and closed up as it was deemed unsafe, being too conspicuous from the air. It was during this time that Churchill devised his famous scheme for the creation of The Mulberry Harbours, the name which the function room at Chartwell Restaurant now proudly bears.
Corporate hospitality
Conveniently situated, it lies on the northwest boundary of Kent, close to the Surrey and Sussex borders. It is 25 miles from London, two miles south of the A25 as it runs through Westerham between junctions 5 and 6 of the M25.
Chartwell is an ideal venue for functions and day conferences. The Restaurant, standing adjacent to a large car park, separating it from the main visitor attractions, can accommodate up to 100 people for dinner or 120 theatre-style.
