With notable Queen Anne alterations and Edwardian renovation, the present buildings of the house date from the early 16th century. Ancient walls and clipped box hedges contain the 'rooms' of the garden, where splendid topiary and tranquil space provided inspiration for Vita Sackville-West, a frequent visitor in the 1920s
