About this property From matins and vespers to swashbuckling tales of the sea, Buckland was home to Cistercian monks and later the seafaring adventurers Drake and Grenville. Wander through the monastic Great Barn and Elizabethan garden to reach the Abbey, with its exhibition galleries and interactive displays revealing the lives and stories behind two men who changed the shape of the house and fate of the country. Treasures include Drake's Drum which, according to legend, will sound when England is in danger to summon Sir Francis Drake from his grave to save us. Beyond the house discover meadows, orchards and four woodland walks on the bank of the River Tavy. These, along with a Letterbox Trail and Tracker Packs, provide activities for all to enjoy.
