About this property From 'matins and vespers' to swashbuckling tales of the sea, Buckland was the home of Cistercian monks and later the seafaring adventurers Grenville and Drake. Wander through the monastic Great Barn and newly created Elizabethan Garden to the Abbey itself with its exhibition galleries, interactive displays and costumes revealing the lives and stories of the people who changed the shape of the house and the fate of the country, and left their mark on the world. Treasures include Drake's Drum which, according to legend, will sound when England is in danger to summon Sir Francis Drake from his grave to save us. Beyond the house, discover meadows, orchards and woodland on the banks of the River Tavy on one of the estate walks, with the Letterbox Trail and Tracker Pack activities for all to enjoy.
