Although today, Eaton Hastings is a parish of scattered settlements, there was once a thriving village.
It was centred around the church, close to the south bank of the Thames. During the period after 1349 the population declined, and until the 19th century most of the inhabitants of the parish were located in isolated farmsteads.
During the late 19th century, a group of buildings designed by Ernest George, and contemporary with those at Buscot, were constructed alongside the Faringdon to Lechlade road. They were the product of Sir Alexander Henderson's social improvement policy, and today, are regarded by many as Eaton Hastings village.
