The National Trust pioneered Guardianships over 10 years ago.
The aim was to develop a joint initiative of conservation and environmental education by linking local schools with National Trust properties and staff. All parties work together to develop an active and imaginative programme, helping to bring the National Curriculum alive.
There are now over 100 National Trust Guardianships across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, providing an important link between National Curriculum subjects including history, geography and science and National Trust conservation work.
The Estates are piloting Farm Guardianships, which involve environmental work, as well as farm and growing practices. We are delighted to welcome Faringdon Junior School as our Guardians.
