About this property Calke Abbey is a unique house, completed in 1704. The house has been preserved as it was found in the 1980s, giving visitors a chance to explore a period when great country houses struggled to survive. It tells the story of an eccentric family who amassed a huge collection of hidden treasures, including an 18th-century silk bed. Why not end your visit along the cellars and servants' tunnel and then explore the stableyards? In the walled gardens, explore the Orangery, the flower and kitchen gardens and the unique Auricula Theatre. Take a walk around Calke Park, a National Nature Reserve, where you can see roaming deer and a 1,000-year-old oak tree.
