At Carlyle’s House you can experience an intimate Victorian atmosphere at the home of Thomas Carlyle, the great Victorian writer and thinker, and his wife Jane.
The house contains much of the Carlyles’ furniture, books, pictures and personal possessions, together with portraits and memorabilia collected by devotees. Many architectural and domestic features survive, while some decorative detail has been recreated.
Carlyle's House is in one of the most attractive and interesting areas of central London.
You could easily combine a visit to Carlyle's House with a visit to the Chelsea Physic Garden, the Chelsea Royal Hospital, The Army Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Natural History Museum or Science Museum. Or, simply enjoy walking around the nearby streets, rich in literary and artistic associations.
