    This spectacular country estate overlooking the River Thames, open daily for most of the year, was once the glittering hub of society as the home of Waldorf and Nancy Astor. Later in the 20th century it was infamously associated with the Profumo Affair. The various formal gardens include topiary and colourful seasonal planting in the Long Garden and the celebrated parterre with its breathtaking views. An outstanding collection of sculpture and statues from the ancient and modern worlds adorn the gardens. Part of the house, now let as a private hotel, is open to visitors at limited times. Note: no WC at woodlands

    Standard Admission Garden (1 March to 30 October): adult £8, child £4, family £20. Garden (13 to 28 February and 31 October–23 December): adult £3, child £1.50, family £7.50. Woodlands: adult £3, child £1.50, family £7.50. House: £1 extra, child 50p. Mooring charge on Cliveden Reach (£6 per 24 hours, season ticket £30; including members) does not include entry fee to Cliveden. Tickets from River Warden. Mooring at suitable locations for more than ½ mile downstream from Cliveden boathouse
