In response to demand from our customers we are investigating the impact of having a café at Dunster Castle.
As part of this work we commissioned independent market research to find out from our visitors what they want and how a café at the Castle may change the way that they visit the Castle and the village of Dunster.
This research specifically tested a concern expressed by some Dunster traders that a café at the Castle would have an impact on the local economy by discouraging Castle visitors from going to the village. The research clearly shows that this fear is unfounded.
We also took the opportunity to widen the research to explore a number of other factors relating to visitors to Dunster and the full results of the study have been shared with all of the organisations around Dunster who are involved with promoting the area to visitors.
A key finding from the research is that
All businesses within Dunster (including the Castle) who serve and benefit from visitors to the area need to work together more effectively to ensure that all of our visitors have a very enjoyable time at Dunster.
