The National Trust is currently carrying out market research into the potential impact of introducing catering at Dunster Castle.
The idea is in response to feedback from visitors to the castle and also to explore ways the castle can provide additional means to pay for its upkeep.
The study has had, and continues to have, input from local traders, Exmoor National Park Authority, Exmoor Tourism Association, Dunster Parish Council, Dunster Working Group and elected members of West Somerset District Council and Somerset County Council.
The research is looking to accurately measure the demand for such catering, what form - if any - it should take, and what impact it could have on the local trade in Dunster. The castle already works closely with many of the village traders in tourism, hospitality and other industries and will be sharing the results of the study with them in November, once the study is complete.
Catering is not the only option being explored. The study will also be looking at other ways the castle and village could better serve Dunster's visitors.
